Hi Mary, Teresa from Langata here. I said I would write once things had settled, so here is my update after you connected me with Simon in Kilimani.
You will remember I took a while to say yes. I was cautious, and I think you could tell. What I wanted was company and somebody who would actually listen, not a polished profile or a big promise. Those are easy to write. What I could not tell from a profile was whether the conversation would feel normal, or whether the person would respect what I had already said I was looking for.
Our first afternoon answered most of that. Simon was attentive, and he did not spend the whole time talking about himself. We talked about what each of us expected, where our limits were, and what would make this comfortable for both of us rather than just one. Having that conversation early mattered to me far more than either of us trying to impress the other on the first day.
It has now been three months, and the companionship still feels comfortable and consistent. That second word is the one I would underline. Nobody goes quiet for a week and then reappears with an explanation.
If another woman is reading this and thinking about an introduction, my advice is simple. Take your time. Protect your privacy until you are ready, and read the safety guidance before you meet anyone. Then watch what a person does over several weeks rather than what he says in the first few days. Sweet words are cheap. Consistency is not.
Thank you for taking the time to understand what I was looking for before making the introduction.
